INTRODUCTION TO MINERALOGY NESSE 2ND EDITION PDF

It presents the important traditional content of mineralogy including crystallography, chemical bonding, controls on mineral structure, mineral stability, and crystal growth to Introduction to Mineralogy consolidates much of the material now covered in traditional mineralogy and optical mineralogy courses and focuses on describing minerals within their geologic context. It presents the important traditional content of mineralogy including crystallography, chemical bonding, controls on mineral structure, mineral stability, and crystal growth to provide a foundation that enables students to understand the nature and occurrence of minerals. Physical, optical, and X-ray powder diffraction techniques of mineral study are described in detail, and common chemical analytical methods are outlined as well. Detailed descriptions of over common minerals are provided, and the geologic context within which these minerals occur is emphasized.

So far, it has been a fantastic resource. I am a third of the way through the class and we have basically read most of the book already.

It is easy to read, conversational at times. The parts explaining chemistry are easy to understand, especially if you have already taken Gen Chem, which was a pre-req for my class.

The mineral indices in the back are really helpful for looking up identification methods hand sample, properties, optics and quick references to the cleavage, crystal classifications, etc for common minerals.

Considering there is a wealth of mineral information available on websites such as [ This was a gift and the person was excited to receive it. The text is a bit dry and a considerable portion By Barret Morgan Wessel on Jun 06, The text is a bit dry and a considerable portion of it is just an encyclopedia of minerals.

I used it a lot in my course, but had to supplement it with online resources for many topics. My go-to reference By Paul W. Pohwat on Jun 13, As a collection manager for a major public U. Of all the books that I own I keep this volume on my desk for constant reference. This book is not meant for beginning mineral collectors and it assumes a working knowledge of intro chemistry and physics, however it has been of great assistance in answering public inquiries dealing with mineralogy.

A super reference, well written and with good illustrations. Mineralogy Explained Well! By Amazon Customer on Sep 19, This is the best mineralogy book published. The subject presentation and concept delivery are unmatched. The authors did an excellent job writing this book. I recommend all professors switch to this text. MINERALOGY By Amazon Customer on Aug 15, It is asumed here that readers using this text will have completed at least one course in introductory geology to provide them with basic information about minerals, rocks and geologic processes and environments Excellent and necessary!

By Scott K. Nilsson on Feb 15, Excellent and necessary for any studying geologists! Useful for all 4 years getting any geology bachelors degree. Also useful when needing refreshment on many minerals. I recommend it. By Federico Manuel Olveira on Aug 26, Excellent, clear, didactic and very useful for the student.
